Finding a Enshore Street Clapham
« on: Tuesday 28 February 23 15:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Normally I trawl through various maps and find a defunct Street, however I cannot find this one.  On a Baptism Record it reads Enshore Street, Clapham.  I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Many thanks,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

What period are you looking at? When was the baptism? Have you checked for any other family baptisms to see if they can add any further info?

Questions, questions! Sorry  ;)

Monica

Hi Monica,
Thanks for replying.  The Baptism was 19 July 1874 and unfortunately in all my family history researching this is the only time this Road has come up.  The family were only at this road for a short time.  Mostly this line of the family were Battersea born and bred, so I think I know every inch of Battersea now ;D . The Church was St John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road, also they wasn't at Waterloo area before or after, so I hit a brick wall there too  :P
Thanks again,
Jan

Hi,
Anything is possible, but the copy I have of the Baptism is one of the clearest written I have seen in a long time, so the reverend could have heard it and spelt his version. The Earnshaw Street that still exists today is in an area which family members were for a while, so they could have come from there  :-\  the question is Clapham, was written.  Well, it may get answered when I am least expecting  :D
Thank you,
Jan

Hi
Welcome :)
Renshaw Street, Clapham?  unlikely i agree.  This site gives old/new London Street  names.  Possibly name was  misheard or misspelt on baptismal record.
