MacGillicuddy
« on: Wednesday 01 March 23 14:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out any information about my gt.gt grandparents, John and Alexandrina MacGillicud dy, last known address Sackville Place, Dublin c1850. My gt grandfather moved to Middlesex and married a local girl, he tried to trace his parents and siblings Rosina, Emilly and Achilles but no luck.
If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

A bit more information would help.  What was the name of your great grandfather and when and where was he born?

I assume that great grandfather had three siblings called Rosina, Emily and Achilles.  Do you have any idea when and where they were born?

Just found an image on Find My Past of an Extract from Census Return of 18 (The year is not stated).

Applicant is Arthur John MacGillicuddy (69 -70).  Address is 23 Lichfield Grove, Church End, Finchley, London N

It appears to be dated 6.7.17 with a couple of later dates in July.  So presumably 1917.

The parents are given as John and Alexandrina MacGillicuddy.  Three names listed, Emily, Rosina, Achille.  Dublin with street names Sackville Place and Southville Place.

The rest of it basically says that as there are no reg. of births in Ireland until 1864, the best evidence of age is by obtaining a baptismal certificate.

I haven't given every single detail, as this can be viewed on Find My Past.

Record is:-  1841-51

Thank you all for your help.
My gt.grandfather was Arthur John MacGillicuddy and the earliest record I can find is when he is listed as living in Bird in the Bush Road with his wife and child, my grandfather. I cannot find anything about him before then other than he tried to find his parents and siblings when he was older. It seems strange that five people can disappear without a trace.
I know about the troubles in Dublin and a lot of records were lost but I live in hope that there are MacGillicuddy's out there who may know something.
