Edward Evans and Ellen Evans
« on: Monday 06 March 23 07:32 GMT (UK) »
Well my first ‘post’ was a disaster as I blinked and found that I had posted a very incomplete query….  I am obviously a newbie!  Even got the names wrong.

My name is Glenda nee Evans and looking forward to getting to know my ancestors far better than I do at the moment.  I live in Australia now, but was born in New Zealand.

I have so far traced my family to Edward Evans, b 11/03/1811 Llangollen (son of Absalom Evans and Sarah Jones) and Ellen nee Evans b 1841 Liverpool (daughter of Evan Evans and Ann Ellis).

If anyone out there knows this family I would be very grateful for any information you can give me, both family tree and history.  Both Absalom and Sarah were Innkeepers at The Sun Inn, Llangollen; Absalom also at The Star Inn.

Even more exciting:  my brother had a DNA test which links our oldest known relative as Humphrey Ellis, Bala, 1696.  If anyone has information on this Humphrey Ellis, I would extremely grateful for your help.  Imagine linking our twigs and branches to this amazing date.  I have no idea what the 1696 relates to, birth, death, marriage, but no doubt more experienced detectives will have an idea.

Many thanks - have a wonderful day
Glenda

Hi Neale

I'm not sure if you are aware  that it might not be Pontfadog  but Llangollen.

Pontfadog was one of the townships in the Llangollen Parish and became a parish in it's own right in 1848

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/Pontfadog

FindMyPast and other sites have used records that seem to be a bundle that  have been classified as Pontfadog but were actually Llangollen.

If you look at the actual entry it reads ' Parish of Llangollen' and not Pontfadog (enclosed). The page is  for 1833 and 1834 marriages.

Glenda - welcome from me too. I have Ellises from Llanycil (Bala)  but a warning that they used the patronymic  form at that time.

It's only after 1837 that you can be sure where the events took place.

I see that Edward's baptism has Absolom as a Potter, living Llangollen Fawr, which was part of the Llangollen Traean.

Late in UK now so will leave you to it  :)

Hi Neale, yes I have done it again :-X.  Mucked up the dates.....  Edward was born 11/03/1838 not 1811 - that was Absalom, 25-12-1811, Edwards dad.

Didn't realise Absalom was a potter! or a spinner!  There have been family rumours that there is a connection to mills of some sort with both Absalom and son Edward - that is on my 'one day' list to see if I can find which mill, but this is the second time there has been a mention of Bache Mill. Could be a long shot.  Wish these oldies had written stuff down - though it appears Absalom couldn't write, so I will forgive him ;D.

Also working on who Martha was.  Narrowed it down to Morgan or Griffiths, I think.  Keeping my mind open on that, but it seems logical.

If records only accurate from 1837 it seems like a lot of detective work to go yet as I would love to go back as far as possible - just like the rest of you!  That Humphrey Ellis, Bala just fascinates me.

Thank you all for your help so far, every snippet helps to tie a loose end.
Have a great day from Australia
Glenda
