Welcome to Rootschat Mark  :D

It would be helpful to know when he was born and where if it wasn't Hornsey, London.  I assume he is now deceased as living persons are not researched on Rootschat.

England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China

Welcome to RootsChat from me too.

The best way to start would be to obtain your parents' marriage certificate (assuming they married) which will include his father's name and occupation. I can see at least one likely candidate - marriage in Mar qtr 1954 Islington (5c/2160). This couple are together on electoral rolls at Hornesy Rise Gardens in 1964.

Or, if you know when he was born, you could look for him in the 1939 register (assuming he was born prior to 1939) to see who he was living with. As Girl Guide says, we're happy to help but need a few more details.  :D

Mark, how much info would you actually like. I can easily follow your grandmother Ethel backwards and her family,

Did Ethel die in 1997 in Islington (your grandmother)

Did George die in 1972. (your grandfather)

These are my possible findings.

George Henry Shrimpton was born 1.1.1897. Birth registration does not show a mmn. Married jq 1927 Ethel Aylott.

George died 1972 dob 1.1.1897 (on 1939 register dob 31.12.1897.
Ethel died 1997 dob 27.9.1903 as per 1939 register.

George and Ethel had been living at 149/174 Fairbridge Road, Islington from 1934-1938. Only George is at this address in 1939, Ethel elsewhere.

A schools admission record entry dated 26.8.1901 for a George Shrimpton born 1.1.1897 records parent/guardian as George. The address given , 254 Tufnell Park Road.

Living at this address in 1901 census is a Beatrice Shrimpton, niece, unmarried born 1876 Kilburn whom I suspect is his mother.

Cannot find George though in 1901/11/21 census.

I wonder if this is George with his grandparents in 1901 (assuming Beatrice is his mother)

27 York Rise, Kentish Town
Piece: 156, folio: 34, p60

William Shrimpton    60    Head
Annie Shrimpton    45    Wife
Sarah Shrimpton   23    Daughter
William Shrimpton   20    Son
John Shrimpton    14    Son
George Shrimpton   64    Son
this is how he is transcribed on Ancestry. The image is very difficult to read, but looking at 1891, John is the last child of theirs listed
