Shipping records for Jacob Johnson
« on: Friday 17 March 23 16:00 GMT (UK) »
The title on this record was world war 1 medals
It was free to download but the dates I can make out  are 1920 1921 and I don't know what these notes mean.

Thanks in advance

Both medals were returned, perhaps they did not have the correct address for him or perhaps he did not want them, or a third possibility is that he had returned to Sierra Leone.

That's How I read the Notes
That the Medals were probably Returned Address Unknown by the Post Office from his Address given years before when he became Merchant Navy
His Merchant Navy Records will be held in The National Archives of the Ships he Sailed with and when
Probably Discharge Date and Address then.

I don't know where he was in 1921 but he was still in Newport from his marriage in 1926 until his death in 1954
He had 14 children with Violet PRICE

I spoke to one of the youngest today .

Would the family be entitled to claim these medals

Jacob was a very reserved popular man.
his family didn't know about his participation in WW1
