Help requested to match name to person in 1914 photo
« on: Friday 17 March 23 16:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

This is not a photo restoration request but I hope people here can help as it is photo-related.

The attached is from ‘The Syracuse Herald’ of 19 Apr 1914.

A relative of mine is Joseph J. Dudleston. According to the detail he is the third from left in the Second Row.

I am a bit unsure of which one he is but I think he is No. 11.

I would welcome people’s thoughts on whether they agree or if they think he is a different number.

Thanks in advance.

This is a hard one
As number 11 could be a tall man in second " "row "

Because there are only 4 men listed in top row

I think  second row is actually no's 6 /11 /7 and 13
Making 11  Stephen Harrington &  7 Joseph j dudleston

Had to recount several times

Have you got any other photos of him at whatever age to compare ?
There are some people who are really good at facial recognition on here

Or is number 8 in second row ? + 11 a short man in top row ??

There are 2 Charles mackain  mistake ?

Or who looks like cousins at end of rows
8 + 9

 More than 8 & 6 ?

Without better clarity of the photo, this is my understanding

Middle Row    Nos 6, 11, 7, 13
Back Row     Nos 8, 9, 10,12
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

It is very difficult to tell due to the quality of the photo, but I think I agree with Neale.  :)

This is how I read it too which makes him no. 7.

It's very hard to be sure, but I wondered if the second row might be 8, 6, 11, 7.

Like Brigidmac I noticed that the name Charles M MacKain was repeated: if it's a typo, which one is correct? And if CMMacK doesn't belong in one of the rows, presumably another name been missed out - in which case, which position in the line was he?
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Hi, All,

A big thank you for your comments; they are really appreciated.

I did a dig and realised I had a 1916 photo of Joseph Dudleston which I attach here. It looks pretty similar to Number 11 but please tell me if you think I am off. As maddys52 pointed out, the original photo is not good quality to start with.

Thanks again all for your input.
