Hi,
I'm looking an NLS map:

https://maps.nls.uk/view/126520814

I want to know whether the buildings (far right of map, on Broad Lane, just before it goes off the right hand side of the map to Burn Edge) 96, 97 and 98 were called.

Is there a key whereby I can look it up? Or are buildings just given numbers and that's it?

Many thanks

The numbers don’t relate to the buildings. They are field numbers. The number underneath each field number is the acreage.

There is more information here https://maps.nls.uk/os/25inch-england-and-wales/info2.html
Scroll down to ‘Acreages and books of reference’.

On the 25 inch ordnance survey map I understand the top number identifies the "Land Parcel Number" eg. 96 and the number below identifies the acreage of the "Land Parcel" eg. .363".
On a 25 inch survey map, 1.0018 square inches equalled 1 acre.

JenB,
Thanks for confirming

Perhaps do a "walk" along Broad Lane in the 1939 register?
