I am sure we have discussed this before and the answer we came to was that copyright remained with the holder, but Ancestry was free to add it as a "hint" to anybody else's tree. 

I am sure someone will be able to correct this.

This may account for the hint feature on the home page...."Your Daily Picks". I noticed the other day that some of them are from other trees. I don't know when they started that as I don't go to the home page very often. Actually one of the hints looks like it's on a private tree. The tree isn't showing on the profile of the person who attached the record.
