Group photo of workers inc my Grandfather b 1880 for any insights
« on: Tuesday 04 April 23 10:55 BST (UK) »
This group photo includes my Grandfather G J Pye b 1880,(the one with his sleeves rolled up )   He had various occupations listed at different times inc Labourer, Boiler maker. Dock Labourer Carman.

In 1911 he was listed as dock labourer.

Any ideas as to the date of the photo, location , occupation  welcomed. Does anyone recognise anything in the photo?

I'm not sure but I may have asked this before, some time ago but someone may have some new ideas.

(BTW no work needed on the photo, thank you)

Regards

Fred

I would suggest that this is a 1920s.
I remember seeing this one before.

What a good looking fellow  :).    In 1911 he’s 31, so it can’t be more than early 20’s he doesn’t look old enough to be much later. Looks as though they could be on a canal bank, barge in the background ?

Good suggestion Suey. Yes he was quite a striking man, even in his 80s. The chap to the right if him , his left, is his step brother b in 1897

As your interests include Pye in East London, could it be a Thames barge rather than one on a canal?

Just a larger b&w edition (if that is OK). Will remove if not

The buildings in the background look more like suburban houses than dockside buildings. Is some sort of road construction going on? Maybe the canvas belongs to a vehicle/wagon and not a boat?
