Gabrielle Joly/Julien Rousseau Marriage Paris 1869
« on: Thursday 06 April 23 18:55 BST (UK) »
Could I have a transcription and translation of the following marriage:

Julian François Victor Rousseau to Gabrielle Augustine Marie Joly on Oct 30 1869 in Paris, Île-de-France.

I have attached an image of the record, but may be too small due to image size limitations.

Many thanks,

Apaulin

Marriage between
Julien François Victor Rousseau, 25 years old, born in Juvigny-sous-Andaine (Orne) on August 19, 1844, marble worker, living with his father and mother in Paris, Rue Saint-Maur 140, eleventh arrondissement,
adult son of Jean Julien Rousseau, marble worker, and Marie Anne Feran, his wife, no occupation,
hereby present and consenting
&
Gabrielle Augustine Marie Joly, 26 years old, born in Orléans (Loiret) on December 13, 1842, manufacturer
of belts, living with her mother, 511 Rue Saint-Louis en l'Île in this arrondissement, adult daughter of Jean Félix Benoit Joly, carpenter, living in Montreuil-sous-Bois (Seine), agreeing to this marriage by means of a deed passed before Master Saulpic, notary in Vincennes (Seine), and Marie Louise Defrance, his wife, without occupation, present and consenting

The deeds submitted are extracts from the registers, marriage publications made without opposition in this town hall and in that of the eleventh arrondissement of Paris on Sundays October 17 and 24; birth certificates of the spouses; the consent of the bride's father. These extracts have been read by us, the registrar, to the parties, as well as some articles of the Napoleonic Code relating to the respective rights and obligations of the spouses.

The spouses, the father and mother of the groom and the mother of the bride stated that there was no wedding contract made. The spouses spoke out loud their intention to get married to one another.
Consequently, I, Jacques Lucien Pothier, deputy to the mayor of the fourth arrondissement of Paris, declared that Julien François Victor Rousseau & Gabrielle Augustine Marie Joly, were hereby united in marriage.

Done and published at the town hall in the presence of:
Celeste Le Gentil, 34 years old, coachman, 212 Rue Saint Maur;
Adolphe Donte, 24 years old, liqueur maker, 44 Rue de Rivoli;
Louis Felix Emmanuel Joly, 32 years old, employee at the Caisse Municipale, Rue des Fêtes 5, brother of the bride; Pierre Charles Grégoire, 70 years old, proprietor, Rue des Cascades 56,
who signed together with the spouses, the husband's father, the wife's mother, and I, deputy, after reading.
The husband's mother stated that she did not know how to sign.
Roussau - G.A.M. Joly - M.L. Defrance
Rousseau - Le Gentil
Donte - Joly - Gregoire

Thank you so much Zefiro.

You and others have helped me so much to develop the slblings of my 2x great grandmother Anna Henriette Louis Joly. The French records provide so much interesting information.

I now know that her parents Jean Felix Benoit Joly and Marie Louis Defrance had the following children.

Anna Henriette Louis Joly b. 1836
Louis Emmanuel Félix Joly b. 1837
Gabrielle Augustine Marie Joly b. 1842
Antoinette Félicité Philoméne Joly b. 1850 died 11 days later.

Their father Jean F B Joly was a police constable at time of marriage, but became a carpenter in later life. He was absent at the birth of daughter Gabrielle, being away on business. He was also not at Gabrielle’ marriage and living at a different address from his wife Marie.

He also appears to have had an affair with Louise Eugénie Blanchard which resulted in a son Hippolyte Lucien Joli b 1852.

Hippolyte married Louise Flore Marie Merlín on 20 April 1882 in Paris Île- de - France. I would be very into knowing the details given in the marriage record.

Once again, many thanks,

Apaulin

It's always better to provide a link. If this is too difficult, don't forget to mention in which arrondissement the event took place. The date and the names alone are not enough to locate the record. Paris has 20 arrondissements, and without knowing the right one, you have no other option than to check them one by one.

This marriage took place in n°12, link follows.

Thank you once again Zefiro and apologies for missing out the arrondissement.

I gain the information on MyHeritage which gives me an image of the record, which is not as clear as the link, but I do not know how to find the actual link.

My next task is to find the death record of Jean F B Joly’s wife Marie Louise Defrance, but not having much luck.

However, thank you again

Ok, I now understand why your images were always at the edge of being readable.

This can be very hard when you don't know the place where she died. When faced with a problem like that, I try to 'reconstruct' the whole family, especially the marriages of the children. Sometimes you get very lucky and you find her place and time of death in the marriage contract. (or even in the death notice of an unmarried child).
I had today such an experience. The time and place of death of someone was a mystery, until I found the information in the marriage of one of his granddaughters! She was a minor, her parents had died, and her 4 grandparents were listed to show who was still alive, and who was already dead (with their respective death dates and places).
