Sir John Thomas Dameron
« on: Sunday 09 April 23 04:32 BST (UK) »
I am trying to figure out which Gosnold I am related to via a marriage to my namesake--Dameron or Damron. Also, is Westerfield Manor now a retirement home? My family came to VA in 1619 but the majority of my research has the Dameron's in Suffolk . I can't wait to visit one day.

Hi Redhedy.

Welcome to RootsChat.

It would be really helpful for you to provide as much information as possible in order to help the amazing people who use this site to find what you are looking for.

Do you have any information like Christian names, occupations, births, marriages, deaths, etc? These can make it easier for people to help. Bear in mind that one of the issues a lot of people have when searching for ancestors is that the spelling of surnames can vary within families and records, and this adds to the complexity of the research.

I don't know if you have seen this site, but it might help with your enquiries about Westerfield Manor.

Good luck with your search.

Peter

I may be jumping the gun here - but is this the GOSNOLD-DAMERON Marriage you are looking for ?
not all trees are correct - for instance - Thomas Dameron b 1547 - dies 1545 - so that is WRONG

Elizabeth Gosnold
Born - Coddenham, Suffolk, England
Deceased - Coddenham, Suffolk, England

Spouses and children
Married in 1539, Suffolk England, Suffolk, England, to Sir George Dameron,Also Known As- "Damron" Baron of Coddenham 1513-1559 with
F Katherine Dameron 1539-
M John Iii Dameron 1541-1596
M Thomas Dameron 1543-1545
F Elizabeth Dameron 1544-1596
M Thomas Dameron 1547-1545
M Sir Edmund Dameron 1556-1605
F Cecilie Dameron 1557-1596
F Joan Dameron 1557-1612
M Thomas Dameron 1561-1561
...............
sadly the familytree is all about Dameron - NO details of Elizabeth Gosnold - do you have any ??  We can only presume she was born Suffolk about 1520 ?

from The East Anglian; or, Notes and queries on subjects connected with the counties of Suffolk, Cambridge, Essex and Norfolk by Evelyn-White, Charles Harold, 1800; available at archive.org

On pages 189-190 there are extracts from various parish registers relating to the name Dameron. These include, at Coddenham:
Quote
1555 Georgius Dameron nuptetor Elizabeth Gosnold xxx die Augustii.

I agree that Westerfield House looks be to a care home now (triangulating maps with Google streetview). Looking at old newspapers, it seems to have been a hotel up to the 1990s.
