Joesph and Winnie Bird 33 Russell Rise
« on: Sunday 16 April 23 11:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,
many thanks to Sue for the funeral newspaper cutting. This is a funeral notice for Joseph Bird, dod 21/04/1917. I am searching for church records, burial records and perhaps a grave photo. I can't find anything, maybe some one might be able to locate the information. Their son Hayden and granddaughter Marian Bird both passed in 1987, so any burial/funeral notice would be most welcome. Thanking you sincerely.

But you know from the newspaper report that the burial took place at the Church Cemetery, Luton.  Genuki give this description:

on the east side of the town is the Church Burial Ground, of about 2½ acres, purchased and laid out in 1854, on the closing of the parish churchyard, and extended to 44 acres in 1893, the total cost being about £1,100; it has also a small chapel, and is managed by seven trustees; adjoining is a burial ground belonging to the Society of Friends', which was opened in 1858.

I would also assume that a church service would have been held at St Paul's church - one of the tributes to Joseph was from St Paul's Church Men's Service.  BUT Genuki does not list St Pauls in their list of Luton churches  :-\ :-\  The funeral was arranged by Messrs T & E Neville of Castle Street.

St Paul’s was in Hibbert Street, listed in Kelly’s, 1898. Since demolished and rebuilt nearby, it seems.

Thank you, I agree, I thought the service and burial would have taken place there. I thought there might be a grave yard at St Paul's, perhaps a long time ago.  Google Earth shows a car park across the road, so perhaps this was the old grave yard.

Yes and I expect the old grave yard has been reclaimed for other uses. Thank you

Bedfordshire & Luton Archives might be a good place to ask - based in Bedford.
