I am thinking - based on a later register for CC Newgate, that those are not the original signatures of the bride, groom, and witnesses.
So the attachment may not be much help, but it does tell us at least that they all signed (no copy X's!)

thanks again.  I have seen wills for one of Martha Kerby`s brothers and for her mother and they could all sign so I think they were a reasonably educated family

think it might be watch case gilder.

Also in same household Mary Jolson. Marital status isn't shown on the 1841.

Just as an update - I now have John`s death certificate for March 1851 and the death was notified by Mary Jolson - she "made her mark" and was "present at the death".  There`s no indication of her relationship to John.  She is marked as being 70 on the 1841 Census so would have been quite elderly by then.
John`s occupation was Master Gilder

Hi
Thank you for the update, very interesting!

Problem - I can't find any sign of Mary Jolson in the records, other than that 1841 census entry :(

Looking on Ancestry I think he might be in the London Electoral Registers for 1832 for Clerkenwell - I can`t see the details of this as I don`t have a subscription.
Could anyone look at this and see where he is please?

You can see an image on FamilySearch, though not great quality

Ah, Mary was 40 in 1841. Rounded down possibly.
Looking at FreeBMD, there are only a very few Jolsons in the indexes back then, I suspect they are mistranscriptions from somewhere along the line. Might be Jobsons?
The only Jolson I have ever heard of is Al!

Could ancestry be right, could she have been Mary Tolson?

the death was notified by Mary Jolson - she "made her mark" and was "present at the death".

John's burial in Clerkenwell was only a week before the 1851 census. Mary ought to be around somewhere.
Can you give us the exact address John died, and was the informant's the same?
