This is the death certificate - I`m not certain of Mary`s surname - if it is Joleson the "J" is different from the one in St James - it looks more like the "G" in Master Gilder.  What do you think?

Hi
Yes, I agree, it looks like the same capital G. Making her name Goleson!
So that's what the registrar thought he heard, and, as you say, Mary didn't sign her own name. Could she have spelt it out for him? :-\

Mary may have been present at the death at 2 Bishops Court, and living there, but she isn't there two weeks later in the 1851 census :(

I think I'm running out of ideas for her. We can't even be too certain about her age.

thanks for confirming what I thought and for looking in 1851 - I suppose she could have been some sort of housekeeper and moved on after John died
I do appreciate you taking the time to help

Another piece in the puzzle has arrived today.
I now have the death certificate for John`s brother Isaac Kerby who died 3 months after him in June 1851 at 2 Berkley Court. Guess who registered the death!  Yes, it was Mary Goleson  (very clear on this certificate) and this time although she was still present at the death (and still made her mark) her Residence is 9 Albemarle Street Clerkenwell.  Is it possible she was there at the time of the 1851 Census?

No relationship given, assume she is head, perhaps, and two elderly widows with her.

Here she is on FamilySearch, as Galostone.

I think Richard Tremlett, who is above her on the page, is on his own (a short thick line is drawn under him, and then another one under the three ladies)

Brilliant - you`re a star!
I assume she was looking after the Kerby brothers who were very elderly, but possibly not related to them

Many thanks

I didn't realise there was another Kerby still lurking in Berkley Court!
There must be a death for her, at least we have a better idea of her age now.

yes, Isaac spent most of his life living and working in Coleford, Glos but went back to Clerkenwell after his wife died - possibly to be near his brother
