Just found his father's name!! On CWGC site - it's Patrick, (no surprise there then, as Andrew named his son Patrick.)

AND there is a Darwen address for the father -- so I'm off to search for him now.

There are other similar place names but that might be more confusing.
Do you feel like sharing the name with us, Pennines?

There is this one - Aghamore, Mayo that I was thinking of (there are a couple of similar ones there).
However, 1901 has a nephew Andrew Kenny here

His birth with father Pat

Just to add to the possibilities  :)

Flippin' 'Eck (as we say up North!) -- thank you Hawk Eyes.

Haven't had chance to explore further yet, despite saying I would - my brain needs to waken up. Thank you so much, Heywood and Kiltaglassan, for your eagle eyed research into this.

The soldier was Andrew Kenny - in 1911 he has given his age as 27 - so an approx. birth year of c.1884.

I haven't found him on the England 1901 census - nor the Irish one with certainty. He is in Blackburn in 1911, but by the time he was killed in WW1, his wife is in Darwen.

From Lancs BMD Andrew Kenny married Sarah McGee in a Registrar attended marriage in 1908 - in Blackburn.
I don't want anyone to go to any trouble - I was just trying to find his birth in Ireland - but couldn't make out the place name.

If necessary the marriage certificate can be obtained to discover Andrew's father's name.

The marriage to Sarah McGee is on Lancashire OPC - "Registrar Attended" usually means it was in a non-conformist or RC church, so there's a reasonable chance of finding the register or a transcript online. It was at St Joseph's Darwen, on 24 Oct 1908.

However, at this marriage Andrew's father is given as James rather than Patrick. Also, I haven't checked the CWGC entry, but if they give a father's name rather than a wife, that can be a fairly strong indication that he wasn't married.

Thank you Arthurk -- this is getting very confusing.

His CWGC record is here;

https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2760141/a-kenny/

His date of death on that record is the SAME as that on his pension records on Fold 3. On the pension records the claimant is his widow, Sarah Kenny, 22, Robert Street, Darwen.

I, too, cannot understand why his apparant father's name is shown on CWGC, rather than his wife's name. He's getting on my nerves!!

Also - the pension claimant, Sarah Kenny of 22 Robert St, Darwen on the pension record cards - is still at that address as a widow with children, in 1921.

This doesn't solve the problem of where Patrick was born though.

So, he didn't pass away until 1920 and is buried in Wales?  Sounds like someone has confused info on the CWGC database or this is not the right guy.
