Convict Samuel Beaman
« on: Sunday 23 April 23 04:05 BST (UK) »
Convict Samuel Beaman transported on ship Capt Cook 11 in 1833, assigned to Explorer Edward John Eyre. Did he accompany Eyre on expeditions? Was he one of six convict workers who Eyre gave £20 each to re-unite with their families? Samuel wrote in 1836, to request being re-united with his family. Was he ever re-united with his wife Mary nee Humphreys and family? He received his Certificate-of-Freedom in 1840. Don’t know what happened to him or his wife. Mariea C

Hello Mariea
I have just looked for Samuel Beaman in Australia (findmypast) and there is a marriage for a Samuel Beaman in 1853 in Sydney to a Janet Laiper/Leiper.
Also, from trove a will notice for 13/8/1883 for death of Samuel Beaman in Sydney , father Samuel beneficiary widow Janet.
I don't know if this is your Samuel as age was not quoted.

Hi Mariea.

The Old Bailey Online site (https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/forms/formMain.jsp) has the record of Samuel's trial and sentence. This is the overview, but the full trial record is below. I hope he's your Samuel.

SAMUEL BEAMAN was indicted for stealing, on the 22nd of December , 1 canvas bag, value 3d.; 4 shillings, and 2 sixpences , the property of John Clarke.

Good luck with your search.

Peter
