Walker Family
« on: Monday 24 April 23 19:59 BST (UK) »
Hello, I couldn't find anything about Alfred Ernest Walker (b.1880 in Deptford) for ages until someone on rootschat found him in the 1881 census which led me to find his parents and siblings. However, I still can't find him in the 1891 or 1901 census. I also can't find his Dad, George Walker in 1851, 1891, 1901 and 1911. They moved around from London to Kent from what I've seen, but could be anywhere. It would be great if anyone could find either Alfred or his dad George on any of the censuses above, but don't worry if not.

These are the censuses I have Alfred on:
-1881 census, age 1, Bangor Street in Kensington, London.
-1911 census, age 30, Mill Lane in Dover, Kent.

Censuses I have George (his dad) on:
-1861 census, age 13, ''..., 5, Brook, Chatham, Medway, Kent'' on FindMyPast
-1871 census, age 22, Groves Lane Lodging House, Canterbury, Kent
-1881 census, age 30, Bangor Street in Kensington, London.

any help / information appreciated ! thanks,

Have you checked whether his father died & his mother remarried?  If so - he could be under the new married name.

Can you post full 1881 details of the whole family showing ages & birthplaces as the address they were living at on other censuses is not a search factor

sorry, 1881 census:
George Walker  born 1851   Hawker  born in Gravesend
Elizabeth Walker  born 1855  Hawker  born in Hastings
Jane Walker  born 1871  born in Chatham
George Walker  born 1875  Scholar    born in Middlesex
John Walker  born 1879  born in Chatham
ALFRED WALKER born in 1880  born in Deptford

will try and check to see if Elizabeth might have re-married or George died

There are quite a few death records that could be George Walker, because of the common name, so I'm not sure I can find the year he died for definite. There are also lots of possible re-marriages for Elizabeth Walker so can't find anything there either.  ???

Don't think the Walker's will be found!
George Walker's wife Elizabeth Ofton is also no where to be found either  ::)

1891 there's a possible for George in Chatham - b c1851 Gravesend, general labourer. He's at 141 Brook (Back) as a boarder

He has a 25 year old wife Sophie from Croydon with him, but no children

There's this chap in 1911

Strangely the full record at the link doesn't include the info in the search results that his place of birth is Gravesend

Thank you for your replies!
I have looked at some and I think the 2 that could be Alfred/George are these ones:
-Alfred as an adopted son in the Wilkins house, Kensington 1891. (although his birth place is slightly wrong and birthdate)
-George with a new wife, Sophie, boarding in ''Brook'' in Chatham in 1891.

I'm trying to prove/disprove these two but can't seem to find Thomas and Harriet Wilkins in 1881 to see if Alfred was with them.
I also can't find any marriage between the George Walker and Sophie Walker, or them in any census before and after 1891
thanks for your help,
