Anne Hesman of Steyning
« on: Saturday 29 April 23 21:11 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Richard Clement [of Pulborough] married Anne Hesman at Fittleworth on 2 May 1722. On the parish register entry he is described as being "of the parish of Pulborough" and she is described as being "of Steyning".

I have been able to find Richard's christening but I'm stuck on Anne.

Is anyone able to pinpoint a possible christening for Anne?

Many thanks
Matt

I can see that an Elizabeth Hesman was baptised in Steyning on 10th February 1701 to John & Elizabeth Hesman; perhaps she is a good candidate for a sister of Anne?

Maybe a bit of a long shot, but there is an Anne Hasleman baptised on 6th October 1695 to John Hasleman in Steyning. Unfortunately, I am unable to find an image of the parish register to compare.

Hi,

Free Reg has both baptisms at church of St Andrews, Steyning.

Familysearch.org has the entries viewable and the details for both are as shown on Free Reg - it seems to me a good potential match. The later one has John's wife's name shown as Elizabeth with him as a Labourer. Earlier one just shows Johns surname - no mention of wife.

A further child of John and Eliz Hesman was baptised at Cuckfield in 1706 named Henry.

Also on Free Reg and Family Search is a potential marriage of John Heasman and Elizabeth Allchone in Wadhurst on 28 April 1685.

All on freereg

Rich: CLEMENT   Baptism 26 Jul 1695   Father George    Pulborough : St Mary : Parish Register

Only father named but this looks like Richards children.

Baptised Pulborough : St Mary : Parish Register

Thomas 1723, Elizabeth 1725, Richard 1728 (Burial 1736), Hugh 1733, Sarah 1735, Luke 1737,
Richard 1739, (Burial 1739)

Richard CLEMENT no age   Burial   17 Dec 1742

I had hoped there would be some kind of naming pattern but the only Anne mother Elizabeth is some distance from Steyning, two others 7 miles away.

Anne HEASMAN   Baptism   04 Jul 1697   34 miles   Ticehurst : St Mary : Parish Register
Abraham & Elizabeth

Anna HEESMAN   Baptism 19 Dec 1697   7 miles   Hurstpierpoint : Holy Trinity : Parish Register
Henry & Hannah

Anne HEASMAN   Baptism   17 Nov 1699   7miles   Cowfold : St Peter : Other Transcript
John & Mary
