COMPLETED Surname of a child called George
« on: Friday 05 May 23 18:42 BST (UK) »
I'd appreciate opinions as to the surname of the parents of the child called George at the very bottom of this baptism register.   The surname would be just before the bit that says 'Cole Houses had a child'

Fingers crossed I've managed to attach it - if not I'll try again - but these are the links to the image online (bottom of left hand page):

Hi Colin

Thanks for the suggestion, but that particular George is higher up on the same page - parents Benjamin & Aleson - so I think its a different child.

I think the father's name is also George, but I may be wrong. Perhaps it would be worth looking through the register to see if there are any other children born to parents in the same location.

Is there also a transcript version of the register?

Perhaps it would be worth looking through the register to see if there are any other children born to parents in the same location.

In a way that's why I'm asking for opinions, as I'm hoping that this is the baptism of my 4xG Grandfather.  The only information I have is his name (from my 3xG Grandfather's non conformist baptism), an approximate year of birth (based on his wife's age at death), and an assumption that he was born around the Tweedmouth area.

I found a female with the right surname baptised at Spittal in 1767 and it was this that led me to George in 1765.  He has the same abode as the 1767 baptism and I think I can see the surname I'm looking for, but as it might just be wishful thinking I was hoping that another pair of eyes might see the same thing.

I've since realised that familysearch appears to have indexed the baptism as being at Tweedmouth, with his name transcribed as George Collier, father Thomas.

Per the links in my original post, Ancestry has transcribed it as George ??Nar, with no other information, and FindMyPast has transcribed it just as George, with no surname or parents.  As I've just posted above though, Familysearch has indexed it under Tweedmouth and have transcribed it as George Collier.

It almost looks like Mary, but I think the bit I see as a Y is part of the word “of”
So Marr?
