Was he a 'waker up'? Or something else?
« on: Sunday 14 May 23 16:21 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'd like to check that Abraham COLLINGE was a "waker up"? i.e., he woke people up in the mornings. If not, what is your interpretation of his profession as stated on his Lancashire 1842 marriage record?
Cotton and farming were the dominant trades in the area at the time.

Many thanks.

I agree with Queenie and KG - Maker up.  My old terms dictionary gives

Maker-up - Someone who made up prescriptions in a pharmacy.  Also someone who assembled garments etc. in a number of industries.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.
He/she who never made a mistake, never made anything.
Archbell - anywhere, any date
Kendall - WRY
Milner - WRY
Appleyard - WRY
