Thanks for pointing out my mistake re Mary Keogh, I should have looked at it more carefully. Re John Hunt, I can’t find a birth reg for him. A rather mysterious lot!

Yes. Sorry, I didn’t mean that I couldn’t find his birth, but that of John Hunt born c. 1884, his “son” in 1891 in Aylestone and presumably the same individual who was boarding with John and Mary Ann in Chestnut Street, Leicester, in 1901.

Wright's Directory of Leicestershire, 1887-88.
Photographers and Artists
Hunt John, Countesthorpe rd, A.P.

A.P. - I guess is Aylestone Park.

Leicester Chronicle,  23 July 1887
Amusing Photographic Dispute.— John Hunt v. Jonathan Spence. — Mr. Owston for plaintiff, and Mr. Hincks for defendant. — Mr. Owston said his client was a photographer at Aylestone Park, and defendant a carrier and publican at Thurlaston. The only point in dispute was as to a portrait of Mrs. Spence, valued at 30s. He understood that the lady was "taken in blue." The picture, therefore, was not Gainsborough's " Boy in Blue," but Hunt's "Lady in Blue." (Laughter.) The lady asked to be painted in blue, but seemed to have taken an aversion to the portrait, because she had been " chaffed " about the colour of the drapery.....(continues)

Thank you for this and for the info re his photography etc. The court case is particularly interesting to me because Thurlaston was also connected with my family at this time (though not the defendant).

This doesn't help with what happened to him but a couple of addresses.

This is his entry in "Leicester Portrait Photographers before 1900" compiled by Jonathan Wilshere published 1988.

"John Hunt 309 Countesthorpe Road 1886-1900; 87 Saffron Lane 1895"

I believe the information is taken from Directories.
