1891 there is an Alice Messiter aged 10 birth place unknown- visitor, with a family of a Presbyterian Minister in Chipping Barnet

Frederick Stewart Sanderman
----------------
Since Edward and Eugenie seem to have split up prior to her death 1894 ref 1891 census where Mary Morton is the Hotel owner that Edward is managing.
1901 they are living as man and wife, were the children fostered out after Eugenie died?

Mmm....
So it looks like perhaps Edward MESSITER then moved on to a new family life with Mary MORTON, his co hotel keeper in the 1891. With Daisy arriving in 1892

MESSITER, DAISY    MMS   MORTON
GRO Reference: 1892  D Quarter in PORTSEA ISLAND  Volume 02B  Page 440

By the 1891 census  Alice MESSITER has reappeared with Edward and Mary (nee MORTON) MESSITER,
EDIT.  This is incorrect. See below
She is with them, aged 16 and Daisy and others  and Edward is a building contractor.

No that Alice was originally Alice Morton mmn Morton born Brighton Sussex.

1891 she is aged 6 listed as Alice Morton daughter of Mary Morton
1901 she is 16 and with Edward and Mary now calling herself Messiter

ADDED
Nellie Messiter was originally Nellie Boucher see also 1891 census

Needs more research but it looks like Mary Morton married Thomas Boucher, goes back to her maiden name by 1891 calls herself a widow (needs checking)

Daisy Messiter is registered as such with mmn Morton 1892 Portsea
