Different spelling

i'm looking for the Ther family, could Ther and Thear be the same, any help?

The spelling of surnames did not really become standardised until the end of the 19th century, so yes, it is quite possible that someone with the surname THER could be recorded as THEAR, as well as other variants.

Illiteracy was more common than today, and many folk were not in position to correct the spelling of their names by others.
