Tracing Fathers birth parents
« on: Friday 26 May 23 20:48 BST (UK) »
Hi
My father was born 8/8/57 at Dorris Court Nursing home - Whalley Range - Manchester.
His birth certificate says his mothers name was *. No Fathers name present on birth certificate.

He was adopted.
Would be nice to track some blood relatives down. The mother is probably dead by now but would be good to find out.
Where would i start? any tips? Thanks so much

Hello, and welcome to Rootschat!

I've removed the name of the mother as there is a chance she is still living.
There is some information here on the nursing home: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=588688.0

It seems likely that there are no records, unfortunately. This is the case for many private homes of this era.

DNA testing may be your best hope for finding relatives as with only a name, and no info on age or whether she was from Manchester originally, it might be hard to find the correct mother, and most likely there is no paperwork on the father.

Some suggestions - but they are very much dependant on how common her name was.   If it was something like Mary Smith or Mary Jones - forget the following and go down the DNA route ;D

Look for a birth for her using www.freebmd.org.uk
Look for a marriage after the 1957 birth using freebmd

You may possibly find her on the 1939 register but this depends on whether she is deceased and whether her entry is visible

If she married - and if her 1939 entry is visible - it may have her married surname

Although the birth was at Dorris Court - is there an actual address for her on the birth cert when the birth was registered.  If so - you may be able to find an electoral register entry for that address to see who the occupants were
