William Milne 1848 - 1897

I'm hoping some on here can help me find my GG grandfather William Milne.
He lived in Oyne ,Aberdeenshire, I think he was married twice 1st to Jane Elsphet Cowie then to Margaret Brandie Aberdien. as far as i know he had 3 children Robert, ( killed in WW1) Thomas, and Kate Ann.
I think his parents where Thomas Milne and Janet (Jessie) Henderson. In my searching Census 's etc i have found him listed as a Farmer, but my grandmother who received letters from his daughter Kate, mentions him as a Surveyor in the Abereenshire.
I am desparate to find out where he is buried in Scotland, I have searched and searched.
Any information from Rootschat would be very appreciated.

Several trees have a copy and he died 2 October 1897 Premnay Aberdeenshire
His parents were Thomas  Milne and Jessie Henderson and his wife was Jane Elsie Cowie

There are a few mentions of a William MILNE of Newton of Ardoyne, Oyne and Overhall, Premnay in newspapers, all indicating he was a farmer - entering horses at shows etc, and a fire in the barn and adjoining buildings in 1879. Also charged with assault in 1876. Happy to send you copies if you haven't seen them.

I can see an item in 1885 stating that William MILNE of Newton of Ardoyne has been reappointed as a Road Trustee. I wonder if this is the source of the idea that he may have been involved in surveying?

Sorry, just re-read the item and it says "William Home, Newton of Ardoyne". I wonder if this is a misprint, or was there was a William HOME at the farm in 1885?

No, not a misprint. Various mentions of William HOME of Newton of Ardoyne around this time. So the Road Trustee is not your William MILNE.

I think we have 2 different families here the William Milne that was married to Jane E Cowie died 1897 Premnay
A William Milne that was married to Margaret Brandie Aberdien
This looks like the family on the 1901 census address Barnyards Lonmay Aberdeen

Margaret B Milne age 38 born Inverurie
Robert Milne Thomas Milne and Kate Ann Milne the family you mentioned ?

To get the correct family I would suggest getting a copy of the birth for
Kate Ann Milne 1899 Lonmay reference number 219/9 mother maiden name Brandie
It will give you the information on her parents and when they married to make sure you have the correct William Milne ..

Your information seems to match with mine. I'd love for you to send me the information you have on William Milne, re Barn Fire and assault charges. I hope this is correct way to reply on Rootschat and it gets to you. I'm not in Scotland but have searched for William's grave site with no results, there are soo many cemetries in Scotland.
