St Joseph's Catholic church Wallasey / Seacombe (Cheshire) - burials
« on: Thursday 08 June 23 20:45 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I found reference to a burial record for one of my ancestors (Patrick Doran) at St Joseph's RC church in Wallasey -  buried on 22nd April 1887. I couldn't see the actual record, and therefore the plot / section numbers. It seems the current church was only built in 1888/89, so I'm curious to discover where the burial site may actually have been? Perhaps lost, or moved to another of the larger cemeteries when the newer church was built?
Any help gratefully received!

It was on Family Search - Cheshire Parish Registers 1538-2000 - the image was unavailable, and I’m not sure how to take it further. I messaged the church but haven’t had any luck yet. Thanks for replying!

Cheshire Archives and Local Studies have a burial im St Hillary, Wallasey for a Patrick Doran 22 April 1887, abode Seacombe aged 83.

If this is your man perhaps he was buried in St Hillary's then reburied in St Joseph's. I cannot find a St Joseph's burial though.

That’s really interesting - thanks for your message! Patrick’s wife was buried at St Hilary’s a few years earlier, but there’s no reference to his burial on the headstone - so I assumed he was buried separately.

When I found the Catholic burial reference that seemed to make sense - Ellen was English, whilst I think Patrick was Irish catholic.

I don’t suppose a grave / section number is given for St Hilary’s or could you advise how I may find it. Perhaps he’s buried in a separate plot?

Much appreciated!

The burial described by Emeltom was carried out by surname Fisher Foster of a church I can't make out!
If we could figure out what church this Fisher was at, might help narrow things down?

Ignore the top bit of "Burials Act".... that is from the entry above Patrick's.

I  think the surname is Foster, not Fisher and he is the Curate of St John's but I cannot make out where it is. Not quite sure how knowing this will help.

I knew it was Foster, so I why I typed "Fisher" is beyond me!  I have amended my earlier post.

I was hoping he was the curate of a church with it's own graveyard.

Thanks to everyone for your help - so there's a chance he is at St Hilary's (or possibly not). Perhaps the Family Search record was just mis-labelled? I can't see any record of an actual cemetery for St Joseph's either way, so another option seems more likely!
If he is at St Hilary's it's maybe a little suprising that he isn't in the plot with his wife, but perhaps he was buried in another part of the cemetery if he was Catholic?
