Vehicle registration plate
« on: Friday 09 June 23 20:55 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone, I have discovered a vehicle registration plate buried in my garden & I am intrigued as to its history. I know the number has been assigned more recently to a car, but wonder about the origins of it? Tried Mr Google & still unsure. It is a square metal plate GCC 123
Any experts in the motoring field that could help please?
Thanks, lancslassie

Some information on these sites:

https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/reg-letters.htm

https://kitheadtrust.org.uk/surviving-motor-taxation-records

Looks like the number was originally issued in Caernarvonshire, some time after Dec 1958. I don't know if there's anything online about what the vehicle was, but Gwynedd Archives seems to have records (see the second link).

PS - welcome to RootsChat.

I suspect it is the rear number plate off of a motorcycle

Could be, but doesn't have to be. Cars used to have square rear plates, too.  :)
