Does Fanny becomes Fay?
« on: Wednesday 14 June 23 18:44 BST (UK) »
Hi odd question lol.

Is the name Fanny synonymous with Fay?
I have found a gravestone of 'Samuel Gravestock and his beloved wife Fay', but on every census she is called Fanny and her death registered as Fanny. The years match and the place is also local, and Gravestock is not a common name.  ???

Morrell - North Bierley
Gravestock - North Bierley / Bedfordshire
Wade - North Bierley
Failes - North Bierley / Norfolk

Yes ìndeed. In fact I know someone who was born as Fanny, but unsurprisingly preferred to be known as Faye.

lol  ;D ;D

My grandad was named after her, he always says "I'm glad I was born a boy" or else he'd be Fanny too ;D ;D although fay is quite a nice name  :)

Thanks for letting me know about Fanny/Fay

An elderly lady I knew was always known as Frances even though her name was fanny..I think she was slightly upset when her hundreth birthday card from the Queen used her real name :)
