Help with occupation on 1851 marriage Ireland
« on: Sunday 25 June 23 07:35 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate help with transcribing the occupation of the groom's father William Jones, also
the word above 81st. Regt.  Location is Templemore, Tipperary. Marriage of John Jones and
Anne Goulding daughter of a shoemaker.

Thankyou,
Jen.

Thankyou KGarrad and Kiltaglassan,  farmer is what I was hoping for.
Do you have any comment on the word above 81 Regt. - perhaps "soldier"?

Regards,
Jen.

Here's the link to the marriage in 1851-

The writing is dreadful, but it does appear to say 'soldier'.

I'd also agree with "soldier". The loop under the end of that word is misleading. I think it could be the "st" of "81st" rather than a part of the word above. Wild old writer, all right!
