Altthough Mary Ann Starbrook is listed as Thomas's daughter in 1901 her children have their mother's maiden name as Lee as below :-\

STARBROOK, LEONARD        mothers maiden name LEE
GRO Reference: 1900  J Quarter in BASFORD  Volume 07B  Page 203

And there is a marriage below ??

Mary Ann Lee
Marriage Age   18
Marriage Date   13 Oct 1888
Marriage Place   Ilkeston, St Mary, Derbyshire, England
Father   Joseph Lee - Miner
Spouse   John Starbrook  - Miner - Illegimate

Samuel Doar married Matilda Potter in 1860
1861 2437 /48/39

*ancestry have them transcrivpbed as Freeman but that is the family above. They are clearly Doar.
Thomas Doar 14 yrs b Ilkeston

Kay has posted 1871 details

You have posted this reference which you think may be him

1881 3326 /83/24

Thomas Doar, 33 yrs Coal Miner b Ilkeston
His status looks like ‘Widr’ . It doesn’t look like ‘Mar’ or ‘Unm’.

His marriage to Lucy would show his status.
