From Wiki

Hartwood Hospital was a psychiatric hospital located in the village of Hartwood near the town of Shotts in Scotland.

From Google

Shotts is regarded as being in North Lanarkshire and is half way between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Yes, I know that and even visited a relative there in my younger years, I was just wondering when that is what is on a death certificate as place on death,  did that mean the person was a patient in Hartwood?

I would consider that to be most likely.  If the hospital is stated as being the place of death in the Where & When Died column, then that is where the person died.

I have several death certificates where the person has died in hospital and it says so.

Shotts (Western District) is a registration district which came in to effect from 1877-1968. Is that the only indication of where the death took place, no other details?

She lived in Carfin, so I am guessing she ended up in Hartwood and died there, no other details.  I am just wondering if Hartwood Hospital would come under western district?

Have you actually had sight of the certificate? If yes, it is unusual that no other details are provided. If no, and you are making an assumption purely based on the district in which the certificate was issued, then that assumption could be wrong.

There is a 1917 death cert included here https://historic-hamilton.co.uk/tag/hartwood-paupers-grave/

Had to use my magnifier to view!

This give the address for the death as Hartwood Asylum, Shotts. Also included is the usual place of residence. Regarding the registration district, for this registration it is given as Middle District Shotts.

The additional information was provided so others looking had a clue where this place Shotts was and so be able to help.  No info was provided in your post.

As we are from all round the world we don't always know these things and it makes everyone's lives easier if full info is given.
