Algers in Diss Suffolk

Hello , I am looking for Algers in Diss Suffolk , or anyone from Diss or Dickleburgh that is or is related to an Alger.
I have managed to trace my Ancestry back to the late 1600’s , however research starts to get very difficult from this point for obvious reasons .
What I am certain of is my Grt x7 Granfather Robert Alger 1779-1846 Cambridge ….died Ashton under Lyne .
His father John Alger 1743 1804 m Mary Adams 1738 - ?
Thomas Alger 1703-1746 Diss
Do you have any family connection or know anything about the Alger family please contact me .

Diss is in the English county of Norfolk, England.

I'm following different Norfolk surnames but I do like this old website (below), which includes old hearth tax information,.  It lists many surnames and I see that both "Alger" and "Algar" are listed.  There might be other mis-transcribed surnames too but I haven't looked for those.

Thank you that is so interesting I had never even heard of a Hearth tax.

Alger is actually a Viking name, my DNA gives 64% Viking which is a significant number . Agnes Alger was my grandmother , the last of the Algers in my family , and I am 100% certain now they originated in Diss .

Any more information would be wonderful.

Have you looked through the records held in the Norfolk Record Office? There are quite a few wills, administrations and marriage licence bonds for Alger/Algar of Diss, Bressingham and Dickleburgh indexed, including 17th century wills, which may help you sort out family relationships. You can access a lot of the documents through Family Search.

May I ask how you know Robert was born Cambridgeshire?

1841 he is just not born in County of Lancs and as did not live until 1851 his pob it is hard to confirm.
