Any information appreciated about parents of Elizabeth COLLETT born c.1806 Tewkesbury, Glos. She married Thomas WHITTLE 1 July 1828 Cheltenham. Children: Eliza, Matilda and Edwin. She was a school mistress. I have found her on 1851, 1861 and 1871 living in Toddington, Glos.

Hi, Unfortunately I am not a member of Family Search but thank you. As Elizabeth married in 1828 I presume she would be living with her husband Thomas Whittle and children at this point. I am seeking information on her baptism and parents.

FamilySearch is free to search, you just have to register. It also has some Elizabeth Collett baptisms. Just put in Elizabet Collet, (one t only) and birth Gloucestershire 1805-1809.

I see one of the witnesses to Elizabeth's marriage was a Frederick Collett. Have you explored this avenue?

I see she also witnessed his marriage to Ann Tarling. Frederick was born c.1802 in Tewkesbury, so I imagine he was a relative.

Frederic, son of Joseph & Margaret Collett, baptised 20th June 1802 in Tewkesbury. Still searching for an Elizabeth of the right age.

Had another look and noticed something strange:

Baptisms to Joseph & Margaret Collett:

- Joseph (1797)
- Cornelius (1799)
- Frederick (1802)
- Jane (1806)
- Eliza (1815)

A nine-year gap between Jane and Eliza? Could Elizabeth have been born in between, so somewhere around 1808? I would also add that I have seen families with both an Elizabeth and an Eliza, even though the names are very similar. Just a theory.

When Frederick Collett married Ann Tarling 13 April 1828 at Cheltenham one witness was

Elizabeth Collett, the other James Toy?

It would seem they are brother and sister, but not proof

Thank you for your replies. I am now throwing another Elizabeth Collett into the mix! I have found one baptised at Stanway in the parish of Tewkesbury on 19 March 1809 to John Collett and Sarah. I have found 7 siblings. No Frederick though.  :-\ Any more suggestions gratefully received!
