Thank you davecapps and Karen McDonald, your time is appreciated and you've helped me confirm that the father Ludwig was military and became a Major more in later years (seems like the Krauchenbergs were career men with the Hussars).
I'm interested in knowing the childhood background of Pauline Sophie Krauchenberg, she ended up in England living, defacto, with my much elder and wealthy gg Uncle; she's always been a bit of a mystery in the family. In the early 1870s, she had been a great supporter of the Prussian-Franco War and knowing her father was a Hussar explains some of that.
She inherited a fair fortune from my Uncle when she was in her 30s; there followed a fight in Chancery over the will, but I think the family liked her anyway. She never remarried (the will stipulated her income stream would end on a marriage) and lived to a great age.
As I said, I'm curious about her childhood. Was she accepted into the Krauchenbergs and supported? Or was she left to fend on her own with her mother... I probably will never know. Either way, army life would have been pretty tough I suppose.
I did try and hunt down more on Sophie Bahlsen/Pauline Scharff to see if they could add any further detail. I found another scrawled document if you are willing and able to have another stab at this. It may be completely off track, I don't know. No worries if you're too busy to take a look
My eyes are spinning from trying to decipher a wad of these docs - and I'm normally quite good at this!
Again, thanks for your time. You are v. helpful.
I should add that the bapt header on the orig page says 1838. The date in the entry appears to say 1889 ? - no idea what that's about. Is the entry saying Johan Scharff is Sophie Bahlsen's father? (ie possibly the husband of Pauline Scharff). I am wondering if these are the same combination of people (except for new baby - and a Schulz is the father of little Louis baby...?) Just a wild shot.
