Any inight into this coat of arms?
« on: Monday 31 July 23 16:09 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Hoping I can find some advice from those who know a little about coats of arms. I'm doing some research into a family for a book I'm writing, and this is the coat of arms.

What I do know is the family history can be traced back to Germany in the 900s and the early generations included a long line of knights.

I'm assuming the helmet refers to this lineage, but would love any advice or theories on the rest of it.

Thanks!

Are you sure it is the coat of arms of a family?  Often town/cities in Germany/Italy had coast of arms, whether they came from early families who had settled there is perhaps likely, so the suggestion is that it might be a way of searching to look for a town with the arms and then pinpoint the family.

eg Bremen had animals and a link to a fairy tale

Italy Florence the Medici balls

What does the rampant wolf mean?
perseverance
The wolf was considered a noble and courageous animal and it typically symbolized the rewards of perseverance in long sieges. The crest of a wolf was granted to valiant captains who served loyally through long sieges or hard enterprises. It signifies valor, guardianship, and reward for perseverance.
