Still looking for Isaac & Sarah .......
« on: Tuesday 01 August 23 11:31 BST (UK) »
Still looking for information on 4xgreat grandfather Isaac Headland. In 1776 he marries Sarah Trenley at St George, Hanover Square, but have no earlier clues to his identity. There is one candidate b around 1745,Linconshire to parents John & Catherine, but otherwise drawn a blank.
Also, no burials have been found for either Isaac or Sarah. The last trace of both is when Sarah applies to the St. Clement Danes Poor Relief board in 1800. She says Isaac has left the house twelve months earlier, but whether that means he did a runner or just vacated it is unclear.
Can anyone please help break down this stubborn brick wall?

Have you seen this site?
www.denhamhistory.online/post/the-trenleys-of-denham

It seems Sarah Trenley was from Denham in Buckinghamshire.

The person who has traced this Trenley family says
"I began my journey through the history of the Trenley family with the discovery of six times great grandmother Sarah Trenley, wife of Isaac Headland, a chapman or itinerant pedlar. The family's travels resulted in some of their children being born or buried in Denham. Sarah appeared before the St Clement Danes Pauper Settlement Board in 1800 when her family fell on hard times.

She has traced the Trenley family back in Denham - Sarah's grandmother Hannah Trenley left a will in 1734. Hannah's father was a weaver who died in 1681 - she doesn't say if he left a will, but he may well have done.

" Buckinghamshire archives hold details of numerous dealings by the Trenleys"
Have you checked these archives to see if there is any mention of the Headlands?

It says the lady who has made the post would love to hear from any Trenley relatives.
Perhaps she may know a little more about Isaac Headland.

Good luck!  :)

Thanks - interesting. That's the first thing I've come across suggesting Isaac's parentage, & that he may have come from Denham. Pity the sit has a reputation for unreliability.
BTW ,are you the Garstonite from Genealogists Forum? If so, you've probably come across me there -
I'm 'Vita.'

Not sure if you've seen this already, but in 1800 Isaac & Sarah Headland plus two children were removed from St Clement Danes to St Pancras (left page, just over half way down, No. 120):

No, I hadn't seen that as I don't have any subs at the moment. Thanks a lot - that solves the long standing mystery of whether Isaac had left Sarah. There has been much speculation as to why she & not Isaac made the pauper claim, especially as she said he had 'left the house' a year earlier.
Can't tell you how glad I am to learn he was not such a bad sort after after all!
