Lucy Sylvia Murial Marguerite Arman
« on: Friday 04 August 23 18:06 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find Lucy Sylvia Muriel Marguerite Arman born 24 Jan 1900, Swindon Florence Terrace, mother Emily Louisa Clara Arman, father unknown, I have her in every census including 1921 census when she was a servant in Bristol.  She then married Ernest Henry Andrews born 8 Aug 1890 in Calne Wiltshire, a Fitter.  He was lodging in Bristol in 1921.  That is probably how they met. They married 30 July 1921.  Ernest is in the 1939 register living with his mother in Chippenham, he is a mechanical fitter.  However it states he is single.  I cannot find Lucy after this date.  I have looked at marriages and deaths but nothing that jumps out at me.  I also cannot find what happened to Ernest either.  There are several deaths that are possible but nothing concrete.  Both seem to have vanished.  Emily Lucy's mother is living at 1 Gloucester Street Swindon in 1939 and there is a redacted entry underneath her entry so I do not know who this could refer to.
Many thanks

Looking at the deaths there's one for Ernest Andrews b c1889 registered Q4 1953 in Chippenham. However this seems to match with a probate registry entry for a gentleman living at 40 Potley Lane Corsham, with administration to Edith Marion Andrews (widow). That's a separate person who can be found on 1939 with his wife.

One crossed off the list of possibles, anyway!

Marriage was in Bristol.  What was the name & occupation of Ernests father on the 1921 marriage cert?

How old was Ernest on that cert & what was his occupation.

There are a lot of Ernest Henry Andrews births - how did you determine he was the one b Wiltshire?

I had a look at the 1921 census and I cannot find any Ernest Henry Andrews with the occupation of fitter in Bristol, Glos.

They all came up as Ernest Andrews.  Dropping Bristol didn't seem to make any difference.  I think it would be best if Suzy obtained the marriage cert. as Carole asked what Ernest's father is called.

It would also provide Ernest's age, assuming he gave the correct one.

There is a 1901 census that looks to be the correct family.

Living at Parkfields, Park Lane, Chippenham, Langley Burrell Within, Wiltshire.  Son Ernest H Andrews with a birthplace of Calne.  Parents are William and Elizabeth.

Registration district Chippenham
Piece number 1920
Folio 95
Page No. 18

If that is the correct one this will be the parents marriage:-

Marriages Jun 1882
Andrews    William        Calne    5a   125
CLARK    Elizabeth        Calne    5a   125
Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

He is indexed as Andrews Ernest HENRY.

7 May 1932. Big write up in Wiltshire Times & Trowbridge Advertiser for the Andrews golden wedding.
Present at the celebrations were their “three sons & daughters in law”.   Not really conclusive either way, but it could imply that there were three d-in-law.

Added. William died in May 1939.  Another write up. Lucy was not at the funeral
