"He died at Gloucester 1866. Mother living 3
?"
My eyes keep seeing Sherbourne St. (or some variant spelling)
Well, I was close! It was
Sherborne St., St. Marks, Gloucestershire.
The news article on John's military funeral indicates that he lived in the Kingsholm area with his wife and nine children, and died at home.
Anyways, a few months after John died, on July 9th, Fanny had daughters Elizabeth (age almost 10) and Jane (age 8 ) baptized, and their address was
Sherborne Street, St Marks. There was no indication that John was deceased.
Google maps shows that Sherborne Street is/was in the Kingsholm area.
Also, Emily got his death date wrong. The news article was 10 Feb 1866, and stated he was
buried "yesterday week". 1866 was not a leap year. He was buried then around the third, and the paper says "the day before his death ended the 45th year of his life", and the affidavit that you posted has Emily saying his birthday was in January. That all makes it sound he died around 29 Jan to 01 Feb, depending on how fast they buried him.
