Thanks, that is what FreeReg makes it too. It is the only record in the country of someone with that name, it seems. Maybe the licence, if it exists, might throw some light on it.

I wonder if Avernt is a variant of Avent, which P.H. Reaney lists as a surname: derived, he says from the present participle of the French avenir, meaning arrive, happen, befit, become, suitable (1300) and handsome or comely (1340).

According to the parish register, the surname Avern/Averne is widely found in Rowington.

According to the parish register, the surname Avern/Averne is widely found in Rowington.

Many thanks, Bookbox. I should have checked there, but had been misled by the marriage being in Alvechurch and the transcript on FreeReg not containing the added info which I hadn’t seen until I accessed the original B.T. today, that the parties were both from Rowington, not Alvechurch. No baptism for Amy in Rowington, but lots of other family.
