Help with words in a 1924 soldier's letter please

I am translating a letter from my great great uncle to his brother 1924.

I suspect that this letter has been saved as it was the last one received before he died.

HWDM: I've not been able to find any military abbreviation for this so I don't think it's correct.

"cancelled it eh": I really doubt a young lad would write this in 1924 but it's what it looks like. I will be be very interested to see what others see for this.

I would greatly appreciate any help or possible corrections elsewhere in the letter.

Dear Reg,
Just these few lines in
answer to your letter which I received
his morning, hoping it left you
in the best the same as it has
reached me. Well Reg I suppose
you are glad you are getting
your ticket, I bet, & I bet you had
the wind up when dad went down
& cancelled it [eh], but its alright
now, I know I should have liked to
have had mine once but I don’t
want it now. Well all I can say
is good luck to you Reg & hope
you get on outside. Well Reg my
leg is a lot better thank goodness
& in about a weeks time I think
that it will be properly alright.
Well Reg I think this is all this time

What a charming letter, no fuss and sincere wishes.
You must be so pleased to have it.

My son bought me a huge book at a car boot sale .
So many photograph negatives which were on glass plates.stored by the photographer and  found in tin trunks in a barn in France where they had been since WW1!

The photographer was Louis Thuillier, and his wife Antoinette.
They lived in the village of Vignacourt ,so many would have fought that dreadful day ,the first day of The Battle of The Somme.

The high resolution is amazing.
My son paid a few pounds which was quite a sad thing for me, to be so undervalued .
But now it is mine ,a treasure.

Faces from the past smiling out at me, so very sad.

I did wonder that myself but it didn't make sense. Unless this was a common phrase in 1924? Maybe he is talking about sending down a telegram to cancel it?
