Hi all,
(Not too sure if I should post this in here or in the occupation thread)

I have been researching a fish and poultry selling family business that ran from the early 1850s to some point in the 20th century in Manchester, then Oldham. General family myth says they were very successful and had the largest fish stall in all Oldham etc., but the family (the Fears) had a lot of children who almost all worked in the mills, so I wondered where the money went for them to end up in those professions when apparently their business was so successful. This afternoon I looked in the London Gazette records, not expecting much, but struck gold with my 4x ggf's bankruptcy records and his son's debt records from twenty years later!

This could be a push, but does anyone know of any other documents (ideally accessible online) that could have information about businesses or bankrupts and debtors (excluding directories, and the legal documents available from the London Gazette)?

Try the newspapers, I found quite a detailed account of a bankruptcy case I was interested in. Don’t restrict a search to the area in which the  family were trading. Newspapers in the 1800s reported  quite minor events in quite distant regions.

the last address I can find for Edwin and Elizabeth is
1924 - 25th January - marriage of daughter Florence
7 Siddall Street , Oldham
.............
so born 1869 - - in 1924 would be 55 - do you have any idea what year you think Edwin went Bankrupt? - on the marriage cert Edwin is now a Fishmonger - so presumably after 1924 ...
do you have them in the 1939 register ??
