Trying to find a location in Liverpool
« on: Thursday 24 August 23 16:22 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon, This is my first post, only just joined, so hope I have done this in the right place. On the 1851 Census report, it shows my ancestors the Dunn family living at an address at 4 Latimir Building, Liverpool, Lancashire, but I cannot find it on any map. Thomas Dunn the father was a Mariner, so I had been looking near the dock area of Liverpool, I found a Hook Street which may be close, or maybe this Latimir Building may be down Hook Street, can anyone help with this please. Thank you in advance.

Hello veryoldancestors, welcome to rootschat.
There is a Latimer house (spelt with an e not an i) a converted 19th century schoolhouse that has been converted to luxury accomodation, could that be it??

Welcome, MyveryOldAncestors.

In the Liverpool Albion of 30 August 1847, there was a reference to 'Latimer-buildings, Slade Street'

Online references suggest that Slade Street was off Vauxhall Road. In the following 1890 map, you can see it below Athol Street, both streets intersecting with Latimer Street (Vauxhall Road running up the left hand side):

Welcome to Rootschat  :)
A good idea is to look back and forth around the census page for other street names. You might then find it that way.

This is for future reference as gaffy looks to have found it. :)

Morning Tinman, I have found the new Latimer Building, wasn't sure because of the spelling, I tried to attach a copy of the sheet from 1851 census for you all to see, but the file was to big. On the Census, the first few properties are down as Slade Street, then Hook Street but in the middle Hook Street is crossed out and 4 Latimir Building is marked for a few families. So it must be round that area, I was hoping to google an old picture of it, but can't find anything. I have also contacted the Maritime Museum to ask about the Building, as Thomas Dunn was a Mariner, but they had no idea either, they had never heard of it. At some point it also looks like the Dunn's along with my Walsh ancestors lived in the Courts in Mason Street, I have found pictures and info about that street.

So I think with your help we are in the right area.

Thank you to all of you who replied, it is very kind of you and you have been helpful.
