I am looking for information on my GGG grandmother Helen Johnston (nee Sives) married William Johnston. They had a daughter Mary Sives Johnston born in Scotland c. 1845. Many thanks for any assistance.

There is a female birth in St Cuthberts, 20/8/1854. Father listed as William Johnston. No name given.

Thank you for your reply with the marriage record of Helen Sives and William Johnson.

I am interested in finding the family and any information at all of Mary Sives Johnston born c.1845.

Prior to her marriage to Morris (Morrog) Morisey in 1871 Victoria, Australia, I have no information at all. The wedding certificate indicate she was born Scotland, her mother’s name was Helen Sives and father, William Johnston. Mary and Morris had 8 children. Australian death records show she died in 1929 in Preston, Victoria, Australia, aged 84 years.

If age of death is correct on certificate, Mary was born c.1845, two years prior to the marriage record of William Johnston and Helen Sives in 1847. I am unable to locate Mary on the 1851 or 1861 census records and am completely confused!

I am very new to researching my family genealogy and feel I have much to learn!

1851 census possibly Mary Sives aged 5 is with her grandfather Archibald age 62, and his son James age 30, living in Edinburgh at Hawthorn Bank

james Sives died in 1859. Was Mary his child, and then adopted by the  Johnston family?

Yes it's far from easy like you you see on the Tv.
I can't see Mary Sives Johnston either.
If that marriage 1848 is right her grandparents were  Archibald Sivess and Mary Welsh
Helen Johnston death 1902 age 75 Lintrathen  mothers maiden name Welsh
 (Why there when she was born Edingburgh and lived in Edinburgh I don't know.
Mary Welsh wife of Archibald Sivess age 66 died 27th at Hawthorn Bank water of Leith buried 30 Nov 1850 at St Cuthberts Edinburgh
Tthe couple married 7 Jan 1817 at Canongate.

On SP there appear to be three possible birth/baptisms for Helen all in East Lothian.

The marriage to William Johnston posted earlier (14/01/1848) may give more information.

The birth posted for a Mary looks to be a good possibility.

I can find no 1851 census for the family, or children’s births before 1855 so far?

Willam Johnston senior died age 51 years at Earl Grey St buried 18.8.1874 Grange Cemetery Edinburgh.

ps the 1848 marriage to William Johnston  gives Helen's father as Archibald Sivess re index familysearch.(I've not seen the original)

I'm guessing Helen is working as a servant in her father's home town or Dirleton in 1841 for James and Agnes Miller at New House.
