Dennis Ainsworth and wives of Birstall, West Yorks
« on: Friday 15 September 23 14:45 BST (UK) »
I’m appealing for help in adding meat to the bones about a relative of mine that I only know the basics about.

Dennis Ainsworth (b. J-S 1933) is the son of Albert Ainsworth (b. 30 Oct 1901, d. 1973) and Sarah Ann Pennington (b. 29 Jan 1901, d. 1979). Sarah Ann was the younger sister of my grandfather Arthur Pennington (1896-1932). The family lived in Birstall, West Yorkshire.

I have searched high and low for any photos for him and his parents and for details about his two wives, with no joy. In 1955 he married Marlene Frost (1933-1975), no children.

Dennis later married Barbara Barbor (note the unusual spelling according to the marriage index record) but I’ve found no birth record for anyone with that name. If “Barbor” is correct then it seems they had no children.

The electoral record showed them living in Cleckheaton and Barbara’s birthdate was given as 1942-1944. It is possible that “Barbor” was not Barbara’s maiden name, or it could have been spelt incorrectly.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks for any help.

You may have to "bite the bullet" and purchase the marriage certificate for Dennis and Barbara, as it is  so modern.

The 1939 Register offers some information on Marlene and her family.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Are you certain both parties are dead?

D would be 90 and B perhaps not even 80. If you are not sure, please change the names to initials instead.

B was previously a Mortimer; she married a Barbor in 1964 in Spen Valley.

I also wonder what the significance is of the date 8.1.63. (CR283 and YW) for Marlene on the 1939 Register  :-\

ADDED:  Just found that CR283 and the date refer to:

CR283 is a form that is used when there is a Change of Surname, Forename, or Date of Birth (most changes will be surname changes, of course). So either this date is when the event happened, or it is the date that the change was document. Eitherway, her divorce must have been around this date.

I’m not aware of any evidence to suggest that Marlene and Dennis had divorced? Marlene’s death record was in the name of Ainsworth, the 1939 Register indicates that she only married once, and Dennis did not remarry until a few years after Marlene died.

Thanks for the help in identifying Barbara as being a Mortimer at birth.
