Flook family of Bristol
« on: Friday 22 September 23 21:11 BST (UK) »
My ancestor, William Flook, b. 1804, Bristol - parents Daniel Flook b. 1783 and md. Susanna Millsom on 29 Aug 1802. There are supporting documents for this. Daniel has been connected to parents Aaron Flook and Hannah Pratten by some family histories? I don't believe that to be the case. Aaron and Hannah did have a son, Daniel, but his information is quite different for him to be my ancestor. Can anyone cast light on this?

Not sure who you think may be Daniel's parents but my take on this is as follows.

Baptised 24th May 1778 Stapleton, Glous, parents Isaac & Sarah-surname Flooke

Possible marriage 23rd July 1816 Bristol to Sarah Demmery (might be a 2nd marriage)

On 1841 census aged 60 with wife Sarah, his occupation Leather D***

On 1851 census aged 71(c1780) with wife Sarah, occupation Leather Seller

Died

FLOOK, DANIEL       aged 77  (= c1778)
GRO Reference: 1855  D Quarter in CLIFTON  Volume 06A  Page 55

Daniel was resident at Kingswood / Kingswood Hill on census records - The Law Chronicle 24th December 1818 mentions the dissolution of Partnership between a Daniel Flook and Moses Flook - Boot Shoe and Patten Makers of Kingswood Hill.

There is a baptism of a Moses Flook at Bitton 15th August 1785 - Father Aaron, Mother Hannah

ADDED
Moses Flook age 66 is living in Kingswood Hill in 1851 - birth place Bitton - occ Currier & Shoe Maker

Find A Grave has a photo of the grave of Daniel Flook died 12 October 1855

Inscription of the headstone reads
In memory of Hannah daughter of Daniel and Sarah Flook of the Parish of St. George who died 2 October 1827 age 19 months.

Also of Martha their daughter who died May 18th 1837 age 20.

Right hand side
In remembrance of the late Daniel Flook who died at Kingswood who died Friday October 12th 1855 aged 77 years.

Also of Sarah relict of the above who died November 30th 1862 aged 70 years.

Samuel Edwin son of Daniel and Sarah Flook jnr. who died 6th of March 1861 aged 1 year 5 months.

(a note has been added grandson of the above)

The family believes he first married Hester Flook 1802 then Sarah Demmery 1816 and that he was the son of Aaron and Hannah.

Moses Flook left a will with codicils. It was written 6 May 1854. Probate 1 August 1855

It's a PCC will on ancestry.

Paraphrased
He was of Kingswood Hill, Oldlands, parish of Bitten Gloucestershire, Currier and Leather Seller.
son Joseph
daughter Martha wife of Joseph Portroy?
daughter Mary wife of William Williams
daughter Hester - spinster.

Wills clarify who's who.

I know this is going the long way round, but a process of elimination and tying families together gets you there in the end.

Aaron Flook left a will written 7 April 1804 he was of the Hamlet of Oldlands in the parish of Bitten Gloucestershire. Coalminer.
Wife Hannah
sons Joseph, Aron, Daniel, Stephen, Benjamin, Moses and Abraham
daughters Susannah Jones and Hannah Flook.

Everything to Hannah in her widowhood, then to be divided equally amongst all his children.

Ancestry: Extracted from the Registry of the Bishop of Gloucester.

Proved 22 November 1827

Daniel Flook's will written 28 May 1849 was not at all helpful. Everything to his wife and her heirs.
no names mentioned.

(My notes this leaves out the children from his first wife)

Probate 30 January 1856 by Sarah the widow and relict, sole executor.

So this would be the one who married 2nd Sarah Demmery  23 July 1816 by Licence.

If the license survived it may have more information.

This one is enlightening.
Abraham Flook will proved 16 August 1834

To Daniel Flook of the parish St. George  and Moses Flook of Oldland - cordwainers.
Wife Esther and children.

Last paragraphs says my brothers Daniel and Moses to be executors.

So the Daniel of St. George is a brother to Moses and Abraham.
