Where did Robert Wind get baptised?
« on: Saturday 23 September 23 12:41 BST (UK) »
H Folks, most of my experience is with Durham County and I am not sure of resources for Yorkshire. I have a Robert Wind in the 1851, 1861 censuses, it seems he is born 1801-1802. In 1851 the family is in Stranton, Durham, and in 1861,  in Bishop Auckland, Durham. It looks like Robert has passed by the 1871 census. Now, in the 1851 cencus, Robert is listed as born Yorkshire. In both census, Mary s born Coundon, Durham. I am trying to sort out where Robert was born in Yorkshire with little luck.
I believe mary is Mary Greener, married Robert 1821. The reson I am trying to sort this is to follow a Wind family that appears to be a separate lineage to my own, but some trees conflate the two lines. The son William is my eventual target, but I want to be sure of the origins of THIS Robert Wind.
Thank you for any inputs.

Thanks, it helps a little. There is still an Auldsbrough in North Yorkshire, however, a little digging and I find this - "----a pretty cluster of villages to the west of Dere Street, the old Roman road, as, heading north, it prepares to cross the River Tees into County Durham at Piercebridge. Exactly 150 years ago, these villages – Aldborough St John, Carlton, Stanwick St John, Forcett, Eppleby and Caldwell..... "  So maybe somewhere in Piercebridge (near Darlington).
I guess it's possible that the transcription assumed Yorkshire?
To add to the confusion, there is a Mary Greener in an 1841 the Lamesley census from outside the county. I have not yet found Mary of Coundon.

Edit - sorry, am I misinterpreting your message? do you mean its a mis transcription or TWO separate people from different places - I am tempted to say a mistranscription - or?

Oh, thank you Emelton. I can go look for that. I think I need to start by mapping on paper as this family is a bit confusing.

There is no mistranscription - that is exactly what is on the original pages.

Aldbrough is pretty close to the Yorkshire - Durham boundary. A lot of people were pretty vague about exactly where they were born.

Edit: not relevant to your question, but it’s County Durham, not Durham County  :)

Seelife - Have you located Robert, Mary & William Wind on the 1841 census?

I noticed on both 1851 & 1861 census with Robert & Mary Wind there’s a Ralph Atkinson noted as unmarried on 1851 census age 39 born Sherbu* bro in law and a Ralph Atkinson unmarried on 1861 census age 54 born Coundon visitor

Do you know his connection to the family?  He's not on the 1871 census with Mary Wind widowed she's with her married son William and his wife Barbra and their children
