Frances or Fanny Steele Born 1796 Warmingham Cheshire UK
« on: Monday 09 October 23 13:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to track down Frances or Fanny Steele, (born of John Steele born 1773 and Mary Sherwin) christened Fanny in Warmingham Cheshire she had a child out of wedlock Matthew Steele, (my descendant) from what I have been able to find out she married a Thomas Hazles in 1817 thereafter Abraham Yoxall in 1849, but on this marriage entry it has her as Frances Taylor not Frances Hazles.
A census in 1851 has her listed as Frances Yoxall born in Middlewich approx 3.5 miles from Warmingham.
Any help would be appreciated.

What name is she under in 1841?  Thomas could have died & she remarried Taylor

There is this marriage entry in Manchester Cathedral

29.8.1818 - Frances or Fanny Steele of Manchester to Joseph Taylor

In 1841 they are living in Middlewich.  Fanny is shown as born in county but Joseph as born elsewhere

No children shown

Abraham previously married Mary Ann Hall in 1845.  She died June qtr 1849 aged 27 so he didn’t waste much time marrying Frances in Sept qtr 1849 considering she was 19yrs older than him

Fanny Yoxall died 1857 aged 63

Probably a pragmatic marriage,  given the 5 year-old in the 1851 census.

Possibilities for the child - Mary

Northwich Registration District :

December quarter 1844 - mmn - Leech
December quarter 1845 - mmn - Manley
plus
Mary Ann - September quarter 1845 - mmn - Hall

BUT birth registrations were NOT compulsory at that time  :-\

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thank you all for your help with "Fanny", Manchester marriage to J Taylor was outside her area of Warmingham/Cheshire but I guess that could happen, with T Hazles I have not found a death entry yet to confirm when he died on FS it says 1840 in Cheshire if that is the true case the dates don't Jell with marrying J Taylor in 1818, (have found no death entry for him yet) and marrying T Hazles in 1817.  The 1851 census France Yoxale living with Abraham and her father John Steele that seems a fit. More sleuthing required by me possibly there are 2 Frances (Fanny) Steeles?  My mother was Mary Margaret Steele am glad she did not name me Fanny! Carole where did you find Fanny and Joseph entry in Middlewich 1841? Again my thanks  to you all for your speedy replies.

I think the Taylor marriage is another person given these baptisms which are likely to involve Frances Steele

Ellen Hazles
Baptism    29 Nov 1818    Warmingham
Father    Thomas Hazles
Mother    Fanny Hazles

Thomas Hazzler
Baptism    16 Jun 1822 Warmingham
Father    Thomas Hazzler
Mother    Frances Hazzler

Another record has the surname as Hazzles

Anne Hazzles
Baptism    18 Apr 1824    Warmingham
Father    Thomas Hazzles
Mother    H. Fanny Hazzles
