Thomas Steele Born 1708
« on: Saturday 21 October 23 14:33 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a connection with Thomas Steele born in 1708 to a Thomas Steele born 1728, and if Thomas born 1708 was married to a Jane Kirkpatrick and if she had the child Thomas Steele born 1728.

Also trying to find if there is a connection to the Steele family if there are 2 Katherine Porters one born in 1666? and one born in 1697? in Cheshire UK.

Thank you for any help/direction you can give.

Did the events for Thomas Steele take place in Cheshire?  If so, please can you indicate what parish?

It would help also if you could indicate what you already know about either Thomas  :)

Thomas Steel married Jane Kirpaterick 6 July 1719 in Middlewich

Thomas Steele was baptised in Sandbach 17 May 1728 parents Thomas and Jane.

There is a baptism for a Thomas Steele in Middlewich 23 October 1697 father Thomas
No sign of a 1708 birth and if Thomas had been born 1708 it cannot have been the same Thomas marrying aged 11.

Thank you both for answering my request for help.
Nell my ancestor is Matthew Steele born out of wedlock 1812 to Frances Steele in Warmingham Cheshire
France Steele born 1796 of John Steele Born 1774 (have no death entry) Mary Sherwin 1764-1844 Warmingham Cheshire.

John Steele (1774) was born of Thomas Steele 1747-1826 and Ellen Kent 1747 in Wybunbury Cheshire, now this is where I am having trouble
Thomas Steele Born in 1728 of Thomas Steele born?...where? and (thank you emeltom) Jane Kirkpatrick in Sandbach Cheshire.

There is also in the mix of things a Mathew Steel born 1688-1762 in Sandbach and a Katherine Porter born 1666- 1733 and another Katherine Porter born around 1697 ?? who appears to have married Mathew (I have no information on her), also a Thomas born 1668-1727 in Sandbach Cheshire I am thinking that this Thomas is Mathew's father and also Thomas born 1728 father? I am stuck on getting past this onto any other prior ancestors.
Again thanks for your help.

So from the baptism record of Thomas in 1728 in Sandbach, his father Thomas is a wheelwright.

Other information for you to look at:

Matthew Steele of Sandbach m Katherine Porter of Wybunbury 7 Dec 1718 at Wybunbury

Children all baptised at Sandbach - not sure this is a fully comprehensive list
Mary bp 2 Oct 1719
Sarah bp 28 Dec 1720
Elizabeth bp 1 Jan 1722
Thomas bp 4 Apr 1725
Matthew bp 10 Dec 1726
John 10 Dec 1729
Mary bp 1 May 1735

Children of Thomas and Jane baptised in Sandbach:
Thomas bp 17 May 1728
Elizabeth 30 Oct 1730
George bp 27 Apr 1735
Jane 29 Jul 1737
Joseph 8 Aug 1739

If this is the Thomas and Jane who married in 1719, then that's a big gap before any children appeared.

A Jane Steel (widow) was buried in Sandbach 13 May 1762
A Thomas Steel was buried 10 April 1756

I'm getting myself in a dreadful tangle with the people in you last paragraph .

You have a Matthew Steele 1688-1762, possibly son of Thomas.  There is a baptism of a Matthew Steele, son of Thomas 4 Aug 1688 in Sandbach.

Matthew Steel was buried 24 Feb 1762 at Sandbach.

I don't think you can be certain that the Thomas who was Matthew's father in 1688 is the same Thomas who had a son Thomas in 1728 - 40 years later.  There were a number of men named Thomas Steele in Sandbach.

I think you may have to try to reconstruct the various Steele families, looking at all the baptisms for each couple - and possible burials- and see if you can find more definite links.  This could take a while to crack  :-\

The contents of the wills are not on ancestry just the index.

They are held at the Probate Registry of Cheshire.
