« on: Saturday 21 October 23 14:52 BST (UK) »
trying to trace where my great-grandmother is buried.  She did in Penrith in 1962 but had family connection to Hunley, Scaleby.  Carlisle archive centre only has records until 1916. totally stuck.  Have tried findagrave and other sites to no avail.   any other suggestions would be appreciated  :)

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Someone here may be able to offer more advice if you give a name  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Trying  to trace where my great-grandmother (Martha jane Corbitt) is buried.  She died in Penrith on 30-11-1962 but had family connection to Hunley, Scaleby. Her sister was Charlotte married to William Thomas Henry Errington.  Carlisle archive centre only has records until 1916. totally stuck.  Have tried findagrave and other sites to no avail.   any other suggestions would be appreciated  :)

You could try the Westmorland and Furness Council if you think she may be buried in one of Penrith/Eden cemeteries
https://www.eden.gov.uk/bereavement-services/graves-and-burial/burial-and-grave-details/

If you think that she may be buried in Scaleby Churchyard, you could contact the church direct.

and if there is a possibility that she may have been buried in one of Carlisle's cemeteries, contact
https://www.carlisle.gov.uk/Residents/deaths-funerals-cremations

There is also a possibility that there may have been a notice in one of the local papers, Cumberland and Westmorland Gazette, Penrith Herald or the Cumberland News (Fridays)/Evening News and Star (Mon-Thurs & Sat). Cumberland News/Evening News and Star - copies are held at Carlisle Library.  They may also hold copies of the Penrith Newpapers, but not sure.

Thank you for all that information. I have tried most of the ideas, and am waiting to hear back from the church.
Good shout about the newspapers!

Hoping the church get back to me this week. Thanks again

Did you check cremations with Carlisle Bereavement Services? I have a feeling that any cremations for Penrith in the 1960's would have taken place in Carlisle, (no local crematorium).  Maybe her family received her ashes and scattered them somewhere special.

There are no death notices or thanks for sympathy for Martha in the Cumberland News or the Evening News and Star and Carlisle Library doesn't have copies of the Penrith papers.
