Baptism records
« on: Thursday 26 October 23 18:26 BST (UK) »
I'm having difficulty trying to find a Baptism Record, Baptism Certificate or Baptism Register for John McBride Gilchrist born 13th June 1862 in Carmunnock, Glasgow Scotland. Parents William Gilchrist and Elizabeth McBride) I'm really interested in the address they were living when he was born
I can't find the 1861 Census to compare with 1871 Census.    Any help would be appreciated

Can't help with a baptism for John but in 1861 the family (William, Elizabeth and son William) were living at Castleton Lodge, Carmunnock, Lanarkshire.
In 1871 William and Elizabeth plus William, John McBride, Andrew, Gilbert, Duncan and Alexander are living at Ordhead Cottage, Cluny, Aberdeenshire.

The baptisms for all William and Elizabeth's children are on Scotlandspeople. John is down as William Mcbride but as they already had a son William the name obviously was changed.
Smith Tiplady Boulton Branthwaite King Miller Woolfall Bretherton Archer and many more

On Ancestry the name is transcribed as Gilebust  ??? 1861 census
On Scotland's People where you will get the original record its Gilchrist
The address from Ancestry is Castleton Lodge Carmunnock occupation Forrester

The only birth I can see on Scotland's People is
William McBride Gilchrist 1862 Carmunnock mothers maiden name McBride
I would take a chance on this one
He has a brother William who was born 21 July 1860 Hamilton
Father William Gilchrist
Mother Elizabeth McBride
This William can be found on the 1861 census and 1871
There is obviously some error on the registration of birth certificate so I would go for this one

Thanks everyone for the information you've given me. Gilebust!  This certainly helps me place where they were living in-between Censuses
